Azerbaijan Sends Aid To Ukraine

After a Russian attack on a SOCAR oil depot on Ukrainian territory.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has signed an order allocating funds to the republic's Energy Ministry to provide humanitarian aid to Ukraine, the state-run Azertac news agency writes.

Two million dollars will be used to purchase and ship electrical equipment produced in Azerbaijan.

On August 10, Aliyev called Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky. They judged "targeted Russian airstrikes" on the oil depot of Azerbaijani company SOCAR and other Azerbaijani facilities in Ukraine. The Azerbaijani president also threatened to lift an arms embargo on the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

Zelensky mentioned in his report of the conversation that he had informed Azerbaijan about Russian strikes on Ukrainian energy facilities. "Ukraine considers this a purposeful attempt by Russia to block energy routes that guarantee energy independence for us and other European countries," he added.

In addition, the Ukrainian president congratulated Aliyev on the peace agreement between Baku and Yerevan reached in Washington on August 8.
