Ursula von der Leyen's speech in the European Parliament was met with applause.

European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen told the European Parliament about the violation of Polish airspace by Russian drones.

"We have witnessed a reckless and unprecedented violation of Polish and European airspace by Shahed drones," European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen said in her annual speech to the European Parliament, TVN24 reported.

"Europe is on Poland's side. We express our full solidarity," she emphasized.

In a commentary on the X website, the French president condemned the attack and called on Russia to "stop escalating." He also pledged "full solidarity" with Polish authorities and society.

Reaction in Helsinki, Stockholm and Oslo

The Russian drone incursion into Polish airspace was also condemned by Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson and Norwegian diplomatic chief Espen Barth Eide.

"This event demonstrates the gravity of the security situation and is unacceptable," Stubb wrote on Platform X. "This is a direct result of Russia's illegal war in Ukraine and its increased drone attacks in recent months. Russia is responsible for this," he emphasized.

Stubb announced that he would discuss the situation with Polish authorities, allies and partners. He assured Poland of his country's support.

Kristersson emphasized in his statement that Poland has every right to defend its airspace. "Russian aggression against Ukraine is a threat to the security of the whole of Europe," he emphasized.

"We give Poland our full support as a NATO ally and EU member. Sweden and Poland jointly support Ukraine," the Swedish prime minister wrote.

In a similar vein, Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide spoke out, calling the Russian drone incursion "totally unacceptable" and "very serious." "It is good that Prime Minister Donald Tusk and the Polish authorities are in close contact with NATO about this incident," Espen Barth Eide emphasized to Norway's NTB news agency. He added that he was in contact with his counterparts in Poland, Scandinavian and Baltic countries.
