Polish authorities want to invoke Article 4 of the NATO Charter because of Russian drones that violated the country's airspace en masse, Polsat News journalist Michal Stela reported Michal Stela citing sources.
Later this was announced by Polish President Karol Nawrocki.
"The operation in Polish airspace has ended. <...> At a meeting at the National Security Bureau, we discussed the possibility of applying Article 4 of the NATO Charter," Karol Nawrocki said.
Article 4 of the North Atlantic Treaty implies that member states will consult each other if they believe the territorial integrity, political independence or security of any of them is threatened.
As the website Charter97.org, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk commented on the massive incursion of Russian drones into the country's territory.
"For the first time, the drones that violated Polish airspace did not come from the territory of Ukraine, but directly from Belarus," according to the Polish Prime Minister's Office.
Poland recorded a total of 19 airspace violations by Russian drones tonight. At least three of them were shot down. At around 00:30 Belarusian time, the first violation of Polish airspace was recorded. The last one, which was recorded, occurred at 7:30 am Minsk time.
