More than half of EU citizens support its enlargement - such sentiments are linked to the security challenges facing Europe.
Data from the Eurobarometer on enlargement was presented in Copenhagen by European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos, reports "European Truth".
"The results confirm the upward trend of public support for enlargement since the beginning of the full-scale war in Ukraine. Concern for our security has increased support for enlargement," Kos said.
She said overall, 56% of those surveyed support EU enlargement.
The highest support is found in northern Europe, especially in Denmark and Sweden, at nearly 80%.
Kos also noted that two-thirds of young people support EU enlargement.
Marta Kos also said that an informal meeting of European affairs ministers in Copenhagen had talked about ways to move forward in membership talks, despite bilateral concerns from some states.
Hungary reiterated at the weekend that it would not agree to open the first cluster of negotiations on Ukraine's EU membership.
