A political prisoner will not betray his ideals.
Journalist-political prisoner Anjay Pochobut is in isolation again. He has health problems - heart arrhythmia and hypertension, and his weight has dropped to 70 kilograms. Stanislav, the father of the political prisoner, told WP Wiadomości.
He said the last letter from his son came at the end of December 2025. His parents had hoped that Andrzej would be among the political prisoners released on December 13, but that did not happen.
Stanislaw Pochobut says he does not believe Andrzej received any offers from Lukashenko: "If such an offer came, he would not accept it. He would not betray his ideals."
In a letter his parents received in December 2025, Andrzej writes: "Dear mom and dad! Everything is stable with me. My mood is normal, I'm slowly starting to feel the festive atmosphere thanks to the radio. It's a pity that foreign languages are forbidden here - I would improve my English, and so I read poems. I am with you in my mind and will be with you at the festive table. Love, Andrzej."
The father says his son tries to keep them safe from bad news: "When Andrzej has something bad, he shares it with his wife, and he tries to keep us safe. We also write to him that we are doing well and that we are healthy. We lie to each other a little bit. But we do it out of love. We don't want to upset our son, and he - his parents."
Stanislav Pochobut admits that his health is deteriorating: because of diabetes he is losing his eyesight and can hardly walk. "What is my wish? That Andrzej be free and healthy. And for myself - only one thing: to be able to see my son before I go completely blind," he says.
At the same time, the father says he is proud of Andrzej for his stance: "Whatever he decides, we will accept it and support him. As I've said many times, I'm very proud of my son. If I saw him, I would kneel in front of him with admiration for the stance he has taken. At his tenacity. Though more than once I've had the thought that the price he pays for his ideals is too high. It's his whole life. When Andrei was arrested, his son was 120 centimeters tall. Today he is 190."
Andrzej Poczobut, a journalist and leader of the Union of Poles of Belarus, liquidated by the authorities, was detained in 2021. In February 2023, he was sentenced to 8 years in prison on articles of incitement to hatred and calls for actions against national security (Articles 130 and 361 of the Criminal Code). In 2024 Andrzej Poczobut became an honorary citizen of Warsaw.
