One of the country's key personnel decisions has occurred.
Ukraine has made one of the key personnel decisions of recent months that affects the country's governance, security and negotiating positions internationally.
According to Financial Times.
Appointment of Head of the President's Office
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has appointed the head of military intelligence Kirill Budanov head of the President's Office.
The decision came weeks after the firing of the previous head, Andriy Yermak, and was part of a broader restructuring in the upper echelons of the government.
The appointment came amid intense efforts by Ukraine to obtain security guarantees from Western allies as part of renewed diplomatic initiatives aimed at ending the war with Russia.
Budanov is considered one of the few senior Ukrainian officials who maintained working channels of communication with Moscow throughout the war, including on prisoner exchanges.
The publication writes: "The move appears to be part of a larger reorganization in Zelensky's security apparatus, as part of which the president has reassigned two other senior officials."
Budanov's role and influence
Sources note that the decision to appoint him has been discussed over the past month.
But Budanov himself, who is focused on operational and field work, initially showed no interest in an administrative position.
His public popularity has grown significantly amid large-scale GUR operations, making him one of the most recognizable figures in Ukrainian politics.
Polls regularly rank Budanov among the country's most popular public figures, increasing attention to his new role.
As the publication notes, "However, the head of the presidential administration - a key role in Ukraine's opaque politics, despite the fact that it is formally an administrative post - has traditionally been the target of intense criticism."
Reaction of partners
Sources say that under Budanov, the GUR transformed into a modern intelligence structure and strengthened its interaction with the CIA. At the same time, he periodically faced non-public criticism from Western partners, who warned against taking too risky steps due to the threat of escalation of the conflict with Russia.
We would like to recall that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy offered the head of the Defense Ministry's Main Intelligence Directorate, Kyrylo Budanov, the post of the head of the Presidential Office as part of the personnel changes in the country's top leadership.
