Formal charges have been brought against Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Silia Flores. They are both charged with conspiracy to commit narco-terrorism.
The U.S. Attorney General Pamela Bondi announced this. The indictment was handed down by the Southern District of New York.
"Nicolas Maduro and his wife Celia Flores have been indicted in the Southern District of New York. Nicolas Maduro faces charges of narco-terrorism, conspiracy to import cocaine, possession of weapons and explosive devices, and conspiracy to possess weapons and explosive devices against the United States.
They will soon face the full brunt of the wrath of American justice on U.S. soil in U.S. courts. On behalf of the U.S. Department of Justice, I would like to thank President Trump for having the courage to demand that [Maduro] be brought to justice, and a huge thank you to our brave military who conducted an incredible and highly successful mission to capture these two alleged international drug traffickers," said U.S. Attorney General Pamela Bondi.
Reminder, today, January 3, the United States fired a series of strikes on Venezuela's capital, Caracas. Explosions rang out in the city.
Later, US President Donald Trump confirmed that the US had successfully carried out a major operation against Venezuela. President Nicolas Maduro, along with his wife, was captured and flown out of the country.
