At the same time, a White House spokesperson said in comments to the TV station that they are closely following reports of the shooting in Venezuela, but noted that "the United States is not involved."
On January 5, Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodriguez officially became the country's interim president. The swearing-in ceremony was presided over by Parliament Speaker Jorge Rodriguez.
