The billionaire unfollowed her on social media.
American billionaire Elon Musk and the chief operating officer of the neurotechnology company Neuralink Shivon Zilis have ended their relationship after several years of living together, according to La Voce di New York.
The 40-year-old executive spoke in detail about the breakup on the social media platform X. The reason for her public statement was that users had noticed Musk had unfollowed her on the platform.
“It’s hard to go from love to a breakup in a week without any warning, but sometimes that’s how it happens,” Zilis wrote. The entrepreneur himself has not publicly commented on the situation.
In her post, she emphasized that she holds no grudges against the billionaire, “loved him more than life itself,” and tried to be a source of stability and calm for him. She said her top priority now is raising their four children together: twins Strider and Ezur (born in 2021), daughter Arcadia (2024), and son Seldon Lycurgus (2025). Zilis expressed hope that she and Musk would remain close friends and caring parents.
Judging by the screenshots of their correspondence published by Zilis, the breakup happened very quickly. As recently as September 24, the businessman wrote to her, “I love you too,” and expressed regret that he couldn’t take her to the White House for a reception with Chinese President Xi Jinping. But by September 27, Zilis had posted a short message: “New day, new life.”
The relationship between the two had long remained private. A native of Canada and a graduate of Yale University, Shivon Zilis has built a successful career in the field of artificial intelligence. She previously served on the board of directors at OpenAI and led projects at Tesla, and later became director of operations and special projects at Neuralink, a startup founded by Musk.
Details of their personal relationship only came to light in 2022 through court documents regarding custody of the twins. Later, during Musk’s legal proceedings with OpenAI last spring, the executive confirmed that after a brief romantic involvement in 2016, they remained friends, and in 2020, Musk asked her to be a donor for an IVF procedure.
Despite the end of their romantic relationship, there have been no reports of changes to Zilis’s professional status at Neuralink. She continues to hold a leadership position at Musk’s company and emphasizes that she will always wish him happiness.
