What can replace the typical potatoes?
A debate has erupted on social media about what could become Belarus’s “edible” brand. “Imagine an alternate reality in which our homeland never became the ‘land of potatoes.’ What product would then be the main Belarusian symbol?” asked one Threads user.
In response, Belarusians suggested a variety of options. For some reason, sweets—condensed milk, glazed cheese curds, and honey—proved to be the most popular.
Social media users also suggested turnips, zucchini, flaxseed oil, pancakes, and lard as alternatives to potatoes.
Many highlighted the quality of dairy products—cheese and sour cream.
Belarusians didn’t forget about alcohol either, mentioning zbiten and krupnik.
