Iran Has Launched Ballistic Missiles At Israel

Sirens are sounding in northern Israel and the coastal city of Haifa.

Israel has detected ballistic missiles that Iran launched at the country in response to an Israeli-American attack on Saturday, February 28, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said.

Sirens sounded in northern Israel and the coastal city of Haifa, warning residents to go for cover.

The Israeli military says air defense systems are working to intercept the rockets.

Shortly before, Iran's state television announced that the country's armed forces were preparing to retaliate against Israel, writes The New York Times.

On the morning of February 28, Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced a preemptive strike against Iran. U.S. President Donald Trump later confirmed that the states were also carrying out a major operation against Iran because Tehran, he said, was trying to rebuild its nuclear program.

The targets include nuclear, military and government sites, particularly the homes of Iran's leaders. Explosions have been heard in Tehran, Qom, Kermanshah, Isfahan and Karaj.

The Reuters news agency wrote that Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was not in Tehran during the joint US-Israeli strike and had been moved to safety.
