Contingents will include infantry and armored vehicles.

The Pentagon is considering sending up to 10,000 additional troops to the Middle East to expand U.S. President Donald Trump's military options.

This is reported by The Wall Street Journal.

A contingent of 10,000 ground troops would include infantry and armored vehicles, according to the publication. It will join the ranks of about 5,000 Marines and thousands of paratroopers from the 82nd Airborne Division already deployed to the region.

The exact location of the troops in the Middle East is unclear at this point, but they are likely to be within range of Iran and Kharg Island, which is an important oil export center off the coast of Iran.

Trump has previously said repeatedly that he would open the Strait of Hormuz with or without the help of allies.

"All statements regarding troop deployments will come from the Department of Defense. As we've said before, President Trump always has all military options available," said White House deputy press secretary Anna Kelly.

A spokesman for US Central Command, which is responsible for US troops in the Middle East, declined to comment.

Reminder, Axios reported yesterday that the US may launch a final large-scale strike against Iran.
