Zelensky Announced A Window For Negotiations With Russia

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has said that Russia, in his assessment, continues to lose the initiative on the battlefield, which opens a window of opportunity for a diplomatic settlement of the war. He said this in his Telegram channel.

The Ukrainian leader said that since December 2025, Russian forces began to lose operational initiative. He noted that in January 2026 he informed his American partners that there was a "window of opportunity" for negotiations, because, in his opinion, the Russian army would suffer increasingly significant losses.

Zelensky emphasized that now the situation on the front has changed: "the enemy cannot occupy more territory in a month than Ukrainian troops liberate." In this regard, he believes it is important not to miss the moment for diplomatic dialog.

The president noted that the prospects for negotiations depend on the pressure - both internal in Russia and external from the US and European Union sanctions.

"Therefore, I believe that we need to find a diplomatic way - sit down and talk - before the beginning of next winter," Zelensky said.

He also raised the issue of a possible format of negotiations with the participation of Europe. According to him, the E3 format countries - Great Britain, France and Germany, as well as North European states - may act as representatives.
