Berlin Airport Suspended Operations Due To A Drone

Berlin's main airport suspended operations on the evening of September 23 due to an unknown drone spotted near the runway.

This was reported by Bild was informed by the airport’s press office.

According to the press office, the incident occurred at 8:00 p.m. on the airport’s runway. The airspace above the airport was closed due to the detection of a drone.
Airport operations were suspended for at least 45 minutes. Several flights were diverted to Dresden and Leipzig.
A spokesperson for the Federal Police stated that several people “noticed a drone at the airport.”

The head of one of Bild’s editorial departments , Tanya Mei , witnessed the incident.
“I was on a Eurowings flight from Cologne; the flight was delayed. Suddenly, the approach to Berlin Airport was canceled because a drone had been spotted directly on our flight path. The captain announced that a drone had been detected. He then circled the area and landed after changing the flight path,” she said.
