11

Mikhal Pashkevich, activist of the United Civil Party (UCP) has been detained in Minsk. He was sentenced to restraint of liberty without sending him to penitentiary institutions for participating in protest actions of entrepreneurs.

As leader of the United Civil Party Anatol Lyabedzka said, a political council of the party had been held yesterday, and Mikhal Pashkevich had been sent as an observer to the Central Election Commission. After the council Mikhal Pashkevich went to a railway station, where he had an appointment, and was detained there.

“He just managed to phone us and say that he had been detained for some unknown reason and was being delivered to Kastrychnitski district militia department. I phoned there and they told me that Pashkevich was guilty of hooliganism. Mikhal is in the jail on Akrestin Street now, he will have trial on Monday,” - Lyabedzka said.

The politician added that Mikhal had been sentenced to the so-called “house imprisonment” which meant that Mikhal could be imprisoned for real if the court returned him guilty of hooliganism.

It is worth noting that tightening of repressions against the pro-opposition youth are taking place at the same time when some European politicians state the situation with human rights in Belarus is allegedly getting better.
