Kurmanbek Baliyev, who was granted asylum in Belarus, made a statement to the press.
“Being the president of Kyrgyzstan and guarantor of Constitution, I am not evading responsibility for the catastrophe of my people and I am ready to bear responsibility,” Bakiyev said in the CIS headquarters in Minsk on Wednesday, Interfax reports.
“There’s no force to stop me, only death can stop me,” Bakiyev emphasized.
Addressing the world community, he called not to recognize the “"illegitimate gang”.
”People of Kyrgyzstan, don’t believe you are alone. I will do my best to restore constitutional order to Kyrgyzstan. I won’t allow gangsters to define the destiny of people,” Bakiyev said.
According to him, “Kyrgyzstan will be nobody's colony, but will continue building an independent democratic state.”
As Bakiyev added, he was ready to bear responsibility for the events in the country but it didn’t mean he was ready to “obey the gangsters and leave people in trouble”.
He said the events in Kyrgyzstan were a “dreadful tragedy”, when “a gang of frauds have declared themselves the government and are committing mayhem, killing peaceful people and destroying homes.”
“Plundering and violence have become a norm, the country has been thrown decades backwards,” Bakiyev added.
“On April 7, 2010, on the basis of the Constitution of Kyrgyzstan the state of emergency was introduced in several parts of the country. I would like every Kyrgyzstan citizen to understand that by executing orders of the bandits they are outlawed and become accomplices to their crimes, with all the ensuing consequences. Punishment for the crimes is inevitable,” he said.
“I insist on conducting an independent international investigation and punishing for those guilty of killing people,” Bakiyev stressed.
We remind that Kurmanbek Bakiyev and his family were granted asylum on a personal order of Alyaksandr Lukashenka. As charter97.org learnt, special lists were made for journalists to attend the press conference held by Kyrgyzstan’s dictator. The exact place of the pres conference was announced at the last moment. Initially, it was planned to organize it in the National press center
