Dictator accused with poligamy may stand trial

It's high time to declare war to immorality, meanness, deceitfulness, unscrupulousness in the government and in the society.

A Kyrgyz public foundation "Our right" has filed an applictaion to the police department of Perbomajskiy district of Bishkek with a request to initiate a criminal case against ousted president of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiyev for breaching Article 153 ofthe Criminal Code of Kyrgyzstan for polygamy, 24.kg reported. This article envisages a punishment of up to 3 years of imprisonment.

As said by the head of the foundation Kalicha Umuraliyeva, this criminal case can establish precedent in the issue of bringing citizens to responsibilty for plural marriages: the declarative article of the Criminal Code that bans polygamy should become acting.

"We call upon representatives of the civil society to declare war war to immorality, meanness, deceitfulness and unscrupulousness in the government and in the society," added Kalicha Umuraliyeva.

She noted that the declared article of the Criminal Code of Kyrgyzstan which bans polygamy, should become an acting one. "Despite of the fact that many officials and well-known personalities have several wives, they are not brought to justice. But people should realise: if they want to be public personalities, they should primarily follow ethic norms and fulfill requirements of the law, to show an example of decent behaviour in their life. One should not say one thing to the people, think the other, and do the third thing. Unfortunately, even the former leader of the state Kurmanbek Bakiyev was not an exception, and as the recent events have demonstrated, he also has several wives. His behaviour has done an irreparable harm to the issues of gender equality and defense of family values," Kalicha Umuraliyeva said.

Alyaksandr Lukashenka confirmed the rumours unwittingly. He told that Bakiyev was under his protection with his family, a wife and two minor children: a boy and a girl. But according to the official byography Bakiyev is married for 40 years, he met his wife when he was a student in Samara. Two sons, Marat and Maxim, occupied high positions in Kyrgyzstan. There were only rumours about the second family: about a daughter of 9 and a son of 4 years old. It is said the ex-president of Kyrgyzstan had three families.

We remind that on April 27 the deputy chairman of the interim government of Kyrgyzstan Azimbek Beknazarov stated that the ex-president of Kyrgyzstan Kurmanbek Bakiyev was charged in asentia with mass murder and abuse of power.
