Andrei Sannikov: “It’s time for Lukashenka to resign in order not to prevent revolt”

The Belarusian dictator is losing control not only over the country but also over himself, the European Belarus leader thinks.

It has become known today that Alyaksandr Lukashenka carried a statement signed by Kyrgyzstan ex-president Kurmanbek Bakiyev to the summit of the Cooperation and Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) held in Moscow on May 8. Kurmanbek Bakiyev, who received political asylum in Belarus, puts a question on bringing the CSTO military forces into Kyrgyzstan. The information was confirmed by CSTO secretary general Nikolai Bordyuzha. However, he says the heads of states didn’t even consider Bakiyev’s statement.

“Lukashenka is losing control not only the country but also over himself. The silliest proposals of resolving the situation in Kyrgyzstan can hardly be imagined. He acts as an extremist trying to stir up a war in Central Asia, into which the army of Belarus, a CSTO member state, will be drawn.

The dictator again demonstrates he doesn’t care about national interests of Belarus. It’s rather easy to detect motives of his behavior. He is afraid of the Kyrgyz variant in Belarus. The Belarusian ruler probably understands that after Russia recognized the Kyrgyz interim government it would be senseless to provoke Russia to take part in his extremist plans,” Andrei Sannikov, the leader of the European Belarus civil campaign thinks.

According to the politician, one can draw two conclusions from the situation. “Firstly, it was Lukashenka who joined Belarus to the CSTO, an organization able to change power in any post-Soviet country in a day. Secondly, it’s time for the Belarusian dictator to resign voluntary in order to prevent revolt,” Sannikov is convinced.
