Andrei Sannikov in Great Britain

24

Last week “European Belarus” civil campaign leader Andrei Sannikov held a number of meetings in the capital of the Great Britain.

Commenting to charter97.org the results of the visit and meetings with politicians, public leaders, representatives of the creative community, human rights organizations, journalists, Andrei Sannikov said:

“Over the last two months I had numerous trips around Belarus and abroad. The main thing should be noted – today the centres of the global politics take an intense interest in our situation. It coincides with the expectations of people in Belarus, who are ready for energetic actions to speed up the changes. Lukashenka’s dictatorship’s bankruptcy is not a secret to anyone anymore.”

The meetings held in London confirm that solidarity with Belarusian opposition and civil society is broadening and grows stronger. It is very important for the British to support people who stand up for their honour and dignity, fight for human rights and freedom. Thanks to the Belarus Free Theatre, which could be called a real ambassador of a free Belarus, the society in the Great Britain shows an increasing interest in the events in our country. Participation in the protest rallies against the dictatorship, as well as solidarity of outstanding personalities of the world culture with Belarusians are extremely important for us today. I am thankful to my friend Tom Stoppard for not only carrying us along, but to taking part in the protest rally against restrictions on the Internet in Belarus.

Today we see that opposition leaders are paid a close heed to, and the world starts to believe in a possibility of changes in Belarus.”
