Council of Belarusian intellectuals limited list of presidential candidates

The Council (Rada) of Belarusian intellectuals has limited the list of opposition candidates for the presidency to 5 contenders.

The five possible candidates include the leader of “European Belarus” civil campaign Andrei Sannikov, a former political prisoner Alyaksandr Kazulin, the leader of the Fair World party Syarhei Kalyakin, the leader of “Tell the Truth” civil campaign Uladzimir Nyaklyaeu, a deputy Chairman of the United Civil Party Yaraslau Ramanchuk, the European Radio for Belarus informs.

The chairman of the Council Uladzimir Kolas stated that they have decided not to stop their activities in coordinating this process. At the same time, on behalf of the Council of intellectuals he called upon all pro-democracy political leaders to carry out effective and productive work in consolidation and defining a single candidate. In the future the council can vacate the position of a mediator in this process, in case politicians won’t agree upon the term of nomination of a single candidate in the near future.
