State Border Committee: Army officer died after injury

An officer of the Hrodna border group received an injury that caused his death.

The news was spread by Aliaksandr Tishchanka, a spokesman for the State Border Committee of Belarus, BelaPAN news agency reports.

According to him, a captain received an injury by accident when being performing a task on the border on September 23. The injury wasn't considered serious. Later the officer faced problems with health and died on October 2.

He was buried on October 4.

Aliaksandr Tishchanka emphasised that the incident had no relation to the Belarusian-Russian military exercises Zapad 2013 held in Belarus in late September. “The border guard received the injury when he was performing a task on the state border,” he said.

“A young officer of the border troops, senior lieutenant Navitski, was killed during Zapad 2013 military exercises. RIP. He served in the Hrodna border troops. It's very unpleasant to see attempts to hide this fact,” the reader wrote.

The Ministry of Defence and the Hrodna border group declined to comment on the officer's death this morning.
