Mogilevkhimvolokno workers complain over low wages

A female worker of a shop with hazardous conditions reports about discontent at the plant.

“We used to earn 4 million, but have only 2.4 million rubles now. We sent a collective letter to Lukashenka. Managers smile and recommend not to expect anything good. We also appealed to our trade union committee, but it refused to defend us,” the woman says.

According to her, the most active protesters faced pressure after the appeal to the trade union, BelaPAN news agency reports.

The trade union committee at Mogilevkhimvolokno plant says they have no information that workers suffer from persecution for their views. They also didn't hear about the letter to Lukashenka.

“They contacted the trade union committee over their low wages. We met with people. The shop supervisors gave an order to look for the ways to increase salaries. The average salary at the plant is 4 million rubles. It is the average salary in the region,” the trade union committee said.

Workers of other departments confirm the situation worsened. Those who were not laid off, quit voluntary.

“Khimvolokno will reduce production and so on. I don't remember that the company has ever been successful. Something goes wrong all the time. We lack money,” an engineer at the plant said.
