Belarus’ chief Hebrew faces five years in prison

A state prosecutor has asked the court to punish the head of the Judaic religious association in Belarus Yury Dorn with 5 years of imprisonment.

The lawyer of the defendant Alaksej Jarmoshyn informed about that, Interfax reports.

“The prosecutor asked the court to sentence Yury Dorn for five years in prison and confiscate his property and deprive him of the right to take responsible position for a certain period”, - he said.

The court Minsk’s Central district has started considering the criminal case against Dorn on 10 December 2012.

The Investigatory Committee finished the investigation in mid-September last year. Youry Dorn is being accused of committing crimes according to the part 3 of the article 430 “Bribery”, parts 1,2 and 3 of the article 426 “Power abuse”, part 2 of the article 243 “Tax evasion”, part 3 of the article 377 “Theft or damaging of documents, stamps, seals”, part 1 of the article 427 “Forgery by an official”.

At the end of March 2012 the Investigatory Committee has started a criminal case against Dorn according to the part 3 of the article 430 “Bribery” and he was detained. Then it was found that Dorn being an official, responsible for carrying out organizational, executive, administrative and economic functions of the association, received funds in the amount of over $13 thousand for a positive decision of the issue of renting non-residential premises belonging to the religious association.
