Construction workers’ day celebrations instead of pickets

Zhlobin district executive committee has not allowed holding two pickets, which members of the Just World party planned on holding on 9 and 10 August.

The head of the district organization of the leftist party Valer Rybchanka received respective letters signed by the chairman of the district executive committee Hienadz Suzdalieu, the human rights center Viasna reports.

Both pickets were planned to be held in Prydniaprouski park.

The first one was on the issue that the Free Trade Union of Metalworkers encountered: the Ministry of Justice refused to return the trade union its stamp and documents. Rybchanka and his supporters were going to turn the attention of Zhlobin residents to the situation, but the head of Zhlobin district executive committee explained to the member of the Just World party that agreements, provided for by the legislation, were not attached to the application for the picket.

- The second picket, that we planned on holding on 10 August, in order to inform Zhlobin residents on the party’s ideas and our vision of the local problems, was forbad for the reason that at that time there will be event taking place in the park on the occasion on the construction workers’ day.

A similar situation tool place in Homiel: the party was refused the right for a picket because of the rehearsals of the Sozh Round Dance festival.
