Portraits of abducted politicians in Mahilou

Activists of European Belarus spread leaflets with portraits of abducted politicians.

Leaflets appeared on advertising pillars and bus stops in Mahilou. As charter97.org has learnt, the leaflets inform about the abductions of Viktar Hanchar, Anatol Krasouski, Yury Zakharanka and Dzmitry Zavadski.

The famous politicians and public figures disappeared in 1999-2000. Later, documents, including the report by deputy interior minister Mikalai Lapatsik, were published saying that the opposition politicians and public figures were killed by the “death squad” on the order of the country's top officials.

The international community thinks former interior minister Uladzimir Navumchyk, former secretary of the Security Council Viktar Sheiman, former commander of the special purpose troops Dzmitry Paulichenka and former interior minister Yuy Sivakou were involved in the abductions.
