Andrius Kubilius: I've Already Seen Six Or Seven Lukashenka’s Sinusoidal Waves
ANDRIUS KUBILUS

The Belarusian dictator makes attempts to cosy up to the West, and then again returns under the Kremlin’s wing.

Lukashenka may return to open pro-Russian politics in 2017, as it was in 2010, former Lithuanian Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius said to Ukrinform.

"I once counted that during my political career I saw six or seven sinusoidal waves, when Lukashenka promoted openness to the West, and then returned to Moscow again. So it was in 2010, so it may be in 2017," – he said.

Also, Kubilius commented on the deterioration of relations between Kiev and Minsk as a result of the detention of the Ukrainian journalist Pavel Sharoiko on charges of espionage by the Belarusian KGB.

"Geopolitically, since the Revolution of Dignity, Moscow has always wanted the border between Ukraine and Belarus was as tense as the border between Ukraine and the occupied territories," – he said.

According to the ex-premier, it will be very bad if Minsk sharply changes its geopolitical stance now and will openly take the Moscow’s side.

We remind that the first persons of European states refused to communicate with Lukashenka at the Eastern Partnership summit in Brussels, after which the dictator decided not to go to the summit. On November 24, the Belarusian delegation will be headed at the Eastern Partnership summit in Brussels by Foreign Minister Uladzimir Makei.
