MEP: Inadequate Reaction Of Belarusian Authorities To Protests Undermines Belarus-EU Relations

Bogdan Zdrojewski urged the Belarusian authorities to immediately release all detainees.

Bogdan Zdrojewski, chairman of the European Parliament Delegation for relations with Belarus, called on the Belarusian authorities to immediately release all detainees last week, Radio Liberty informs.

"The use of force against those who exercise their right to peaceful protest can not be justified under any circumstances, and repressions that violate the right to freedom of speech and assembly are contrary to Belarus' international obligations," - Bogdan Zdrojewski has said in a special press-release .

"I urge the Belarusian authorities to immediately release all the detainees and remind that a few months of efforts by the European Parliament and Belarus can be undermined by inadequate reaction from the authorities to the demonstrations," - the MEP has added.

Important to note, on March 25 the authorities put thousands of riot policemen against peaceful demonstrators in Minsk.
