The official statistics in Belarus has been unworthy of trust for a long time.

The Belarusian Christian Democracy received a response of the Ministry of the Anti-Monopoly Regulation and Trade on the collective complaints of 2500 people with proposals for the dealcoholizing of the population, bchd.info reports.

The said response, signed by Deputy Minister Iryna Narkevich, states the following:

"The state program "Health of the people and the demographic security of the Republic of Belarus" for 2016-2020, one of the subprograms of which is the subprogram # 3 "Prevention and overcoming drunkenness and alcoholism," which, in turn, provides for "securing the reduction of alcohol consumption per capita to 9.2 a liter by 2020."

Herein, in the next paragraph of the Deputy Minister’s response it is stated that, according to the data of the National Statistics Committee, “the consumption of alcoholic beverages per capita decreased from 9,05 liters in 2015 to 8,8 liters in 2016.”

"The figures quoted in the response cause complete misunderstanding. Either the sub-program #3 "Prevention and overcoming drunkenness and alcoholism", adopted in 2016, implies an increase in alcohol consumption per capita from 9.05 liters in 2015 to 9.2 liters in 2020, or the National Statistics Committee’s data do not correspond with the reality. The official statistics in Belarus hasn’t been trusted since long ago, and this response once again convinces us of this. The response indicates that the government statistics of the real consumption of alcohol in the country is higher than the official statistics.

It turns out that the MART caught the National Statistics Committee on lies, without noticing it. With such "statistics", we, unfortunately, can only guess what the real dynamics of the alcohol consumption in Belarus looks like", - Volha Kavalkova, coordinator of the campaign "Protect our children from alcohol", has said.
