Mikalai Statkevich: Time To Liberate Belarus From Hitlerites
MIKALAI STATKEVICH

The authorities equalized the action in memory of the Second World war soldiers with a non-sanctioned event.

On May 8, leader of the Belarusian National Congress Mikalai Statkevich honoured the memory of the Second World war soldiers.

The authorities reckoned this commemorative action as a non-sanctioned assembly. Mikalai Statkevich commented upon this situation for the charter97.org:

“I received two documents by mail: a notice from the Savetski district police department that I committed an administrative offence, and a copy of the record of the offense, in which acting head of the police department testified as a witness.

My allies and I have come to the military cemetery on May 8 for 25 years. Today, the authorities reckon honouring the memory of the deceased in the World war II as a protest action.

Previously, the “president” voiced his sympathy for Hitler only to German journalists. It seems that this sympathy turned into hatred towards the Soviet soldiers, who destroyed the Hitler regime. He even replaced the holiday of Belarus’ liberation from Hitlerites with a Day of Independence from nobody knows what.

Have you noticed he never goes to the soldiers’ graves? Only to the monument on an empty place. And now he even decided to declare floral tribute to the soldiers’ graves a “violation of the law”.

For 25 years (with deduction of the years when I was in prison), together with my allies, I came to the military cemetery on May 8 to honor the memory of the dead Soviet soldiers. Now this man lost patience and wants to put me under trial for this "crime".

Perhaps the closer the end of his rule, the stronger hatred for those who put an end to the power of his teacher.

I consider it an honour for myself to be condemned for the memory of the dead soldiers.

But don’t you think that it's time to liberate Belarus from Hitlerites again? "
