Astravets Preparing for an Accident at the BelNPP

270 people and 40 units of equipment are being redeployed to the construction area.

On October 11, the Astravets district will carry out exercises in response to a radiation accident. BelTA informs.

The exercise will involve more than 270 people and more than 40 units of equipment, including the forces and means of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Defence, the State Border Committee, the Ministry of Health and other organizations, as well as departments of Rosatom.

"Not to disturb civilians, the evacuation drill will be held with the involvement of observers. All villagers - 183 people in eight villages - were informed about exercises," the Emergencies Ministry says.

NPP personnel will demonstrate actions on localization and elimination of accidents on reactor equipment, evacuation and sheltering in protective structures, functioning of the emergency response centre and information interaction. Emergencies Ministry subdivisions are extinguishing the fire of the diesel fuel warehouse in an emergency.

Earlier such exercises were held in Lithuania. Special services learned to respond to emergencies at the BelNPP. Local residents, special equipment and responsible services were also involved in the exercises.
