Lawyer: Decree On “parasites” Has No Right To Exist

The authorities have violated the constitutional rights of the Belarusians once again.

Yesterday, the Chyhunachny district court of Homel started the consideration of the Maryja Tarasenka’s case against the “parasite” commission. The Homel resident had filed a lawsuit seeking compensation of moral damage caused by the activities of the so-called “commission to promote employment” and officials from the region and the city executive committee. Maryja Tarasenka estimated the damage at 1 thousand Belarusian rubles, Radio Racyja reports.

– They are blackmailing me with the fact that the communal chargewill be increased. They do not want to admit that it violates my constitutional right to work. And the decree on “parasites” itself, I can say not as a lawyer, but as a citizen, has a lot of evasion.

The interests of Maryja Tarasenka in court are represented by legal inspector of the REP independent trade union, Homel lawyer Leanid Sudalenka.

– Here we see that government officials have decided to go for broke. Well ... If they go for broke, then let them do it. If the decision on Monday is not in our favor, then Maryja Tarasenka and I will go to the appellate court. We will get to the Supreme Court to show that this decree has no right to exist.

The decision on Maryja Tarasenka’s suit will be announced on March 18. If the judge of the Chyhunachny district court Illia Svirydau rejects the plaintiff’s claims, Maryja Tarasenka intends to continue to fight for their rights.
