The leader of the Conservative Christian Party of the Belarusian People's Front Zianon Pazniak told why he considers the military exercises announced by Lukashenka and Putin to be the occupation of Belarus and tells whether there will be a war between Russia and Ukraine and what the West could do for Belarus in such a situation.

About the occupation

The situation in Belarus is a typical occupation.

Firstly, the regime is illegitimate, and therefore it has no right to decide the fate of the nation. Secondly, this regime is the regime of internal occupation. This means that 27 years ago Moscow appointed its protégé to have total economic and political actions control. The regime carried out policy completely in the interests of the Russian Federation: closing schools, the language, the economy, and many other things.

Actually, the Belarusian territory is now under the control of the Russian army, and Lukashenka can do nothing. De facto, this "Belarusian balcony" is in Putin's hands. These troops can be partially brought out, partial bases will remain, but, as they say, there is no innocence already.

Even if they completely withdraw their troops from Belarus, this does not mean anything. The occupation took place in fact, and the country is occupied. But these troops will not be completely withdrawn. There are training centers, and this is a screen for military bases.

About the possibility of a Russian-Ukrainian war

Putin acted unexpectedly for the West and quite professionally. They created a boom around Ukraine, but it is very risky for Putin to take up arms against Ukraine. I don't think he will get into it.
