Hackers Hack Email Of Russian GRU Lieutenant Colonel Wanted By FBI

Details of his personal life were posted in the public domain.

Ukrainian hackers from the Cyber Contra team have hacked into the email, social media and personal account of Russian GRU officer  Sergei Morgachev on the Russian state services website. Born in Kyiv, he has worked for Moscow all his life, in particular as the handler of Russia's most notorious hacking group, ART 28, which hacked the US Democratic Party's servers in the midst of the 2016 election.

Morgachev is wanted by the US FBI for his involvement in a number of serious cybercrimes around the world. Meanwhile, Ukrainian hackers have released his personal details to the public, InformNapalm reported.

"He was born in Kyiv, but has been working for Moscow all his life. He graduated from the FSB Academy in 1999 and joined the Russian military intelligence service. He is the handler of the most famous Russian hacker group APT 28 (also known in the media as Fancy Bear, Pawn Storm), which hacked into the servers of the US Democratic Party in 2016, and it was an attempt by the Kremlin to interfere in the US election. A very cool and clever hacker, but... Ukrainian hacktivists from the Cyber Contra team hacked him. And before he knew it - they siphoned off all his personal data and finally ordered him presents on AlịExpress," the message reads.

It was the final chord of the hack that was most humiliating for the Russian cybercriminal. Having hacked into his anonymous social media accounts, the Ukrainian hackers published there scanned copies of his documents, in particular of his passport.

Further, after gaining access to Morgachev's AlịExpress account, the hackers carefully ordered several dozen items of various goods for him, including souvenirs with the logo of the FBI, which is looking for him, as well as a large batch of toys for adults. The purchases were paid for with his card. One of the parcels, it has been ascertained by activists, is on its way to the addressee.

After a thorough examination of Morgachev's correspondence, using the information obtained for intelligence purposes, activists posted details of the personal life of one of the world's most wanted cybercriminals to the public.
