'Armageddon' Near Izhevsk: This Happens At Plant Producing Nuclear 'Topol'

A powerful explosion occurred at the enterprise, which is part of the state corporation "Roscosmos".

In the evening of February 7, there was a powerful detonation at a Russian military facility near the city of Izhevsk.

The Russian Emergency Situations Ministry has already confirmed that the incident occurred at the facility of the Votkinsk Machine-Building Plant, a key enterprise of the country's nuclear forces, reports dialog.ua.

Residents of Izhevsk observed near the city an explosion of enormous force, after which a semblance of a nuclear mushroom formed at the site of the emergency.

Panic began among the locals.

The Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations reacted to the incident immediately. It reported that the detonation was caused by some "technical work" at the Votkinsk plant. The consequences of the detonation are currently unknown.

It is known that 13 kilometres from Izhevsk there is a test site of the Votkinsk Machine-Building Plant. This is a key enterprise of the Russian nuclear forces. It specialises in the production of Topol-M nuclear missile systems, which are the basis of Russia's nuclear triad. The enterprise also produces Iskander-M missile defence systems and Bulava sea-based missiles.

It should be noted that in early August 2023, explosions were already heard at the plant, which was reported by local residents.

Officially there is no information about it, however, according to the media, then one of the buildings of the plant, where missiles were assembled, was destroyed.

Votkinsk Plant: What Is Known

About the Votkinskiy enterprise and its range, located in the village of Yagul, not much is known, since this Russian plant belongs to the military. However, OBOZ.UA has collected all the information that it was possible to learn.

Votkinsk plant is located in the town of the same name in 50 kilometres about Izhevsk, the capital of Udmurtia. At the same time, the test site of the plant is located on the other side of Izhevsk (10 kilometres from it), in the village of Yagul.

The plant is specialised in both civilian and military products. In particular, it produces artillery rockets, including strategic ballistic missiles for Topol-M and Iskander systems. In 2023, the company published 19 state contracts for manufacturing nuclear weapons components.

It is interesting: the official sources of Yagul note that the village has one secondary comprehensive school, one boarding school for orphans, one kindergarten, one cultural complex "Yagulsky", and even one high-security prison. But there is no mention of a test site - despite the production of nuclear weapons components.

The Votkinsk plant was founded back in 1759 as an ironworks. At that time it was headed by Ilya Tchaikovsky, the father of the famous composer. The plant first smelted iron, later mastered the production of anchors, and since the 20th century steam locomotives, excavators and armaments.

Today the plant is under international sanctions of the European Union, the USA and a number of other countries. The sanctions are imposed because of military products. Apart from the mentioned Topol-M nuclear systems, the plant produces Iskander, Temp-S missiles, 9K714 Oka and 9K79-1 Tochka-U systems.

The plant is part of the Roscosmos state corporation.

Earlier there was the territory of the military unit 28 059 in Yagul, an anti-aircraft missile system S-200 was located there. Officially, the military unit was disbanded in 1997.

The local residents have not been warned about the fact that tests may be conducted at the range.
