Bloomberg: Moscow Suddenly Withdraws Its Plan To Revise Border With Lithuania And Finland In The Baltic Sea

The text was removed from the government website without explanation.

Russia's Baltic neighbors reacted furiously to the publication of the document, after which Moscow urgently abandoned publicly announced plans.

Russia abruptly abandoned its plans and withdrew notification of plans to revise the border in the Baltic Sea.

The proposal of the Russian MoD to change the border and territorial waters of the country in the Baltic Sea, which caused a sharp reaction of Lithuania and Finland, was removed from the government website without explanation.

This was reported by Bloomberg news agency.

The document, which was published for public comment, read that the ministry wanted to adjust the coordinates of the points at which Russia's territorial waters were calculated, and cited a 1985 document adopted by the Soviet Union as justification.

Today, a message appeared on the website that the project has been deleted. Prior to its removal, three major Russian news channels published a statement by an unnamed “military-diplomatic source” denying that Moscow had any plans to revise the state border in the Baltic or revise its territorial waters.

They did not explain why the document was published. Russia's Baltic neighbors reacted furiously to the publication of the document.

Kremlin's speaker Peskov later denied the existence of any political intentions, although he did not renounce the document and said that Russia was obliged to take "appropriate steps" to ensure its security.
