Talking To Plane: Ukrainian MiG-29 Pilot Shoots Down Two Shahed In One Sortie

A Ukrainian fighter pilot has managed to shoot down two Shahed attack drones in one combat sortie. His story was shared by the press service of the West Air Command.
Pavlo is a pilot of the Sevastopol tactical aviation brigade of the West Air Command, a MiG-29 front-line fighter pilot. One of his combat missions is to work in the sky during the repelling of Russian massive combined missile and air strikes.
That day, he said, he had a sense of confidence. He took to the skies from one of the operational airfields and before the flight he "said hello" to the aircraft, mentally saying that he had to shoot down a Shahed. After the pilot destroyed one attack drone, was tasked with destroying another target.
"Then I said mentally to my aircraft again, 'We have to do this with you, shoot down the other one as well.' And we did. The night was sleepless, but productive for me, and ended with a calm morning for the Ukrainians who were targeted by these two enemy drones," Pavlo said.
The press service did not specify when it happened.
"Shooting down small-sized and low-speed attack drones is not as easy as it seems," says the pilot. "You have to calculate everything carefully: the speed of the aircraft, your manoeuvres in the sky".
He noted that Ukrainian pilots have trained and are training hard to fight Shahed effectively. In addition, winning in the sky requires the work of many people on the ground.
"Technicians and engineers constantly keep the aircraft ready for combat flight. We work on a 24/7 basis. Combat calculations of radio-technical units help to identify the target, the personnel of aviation guidance points help to approach it. This is the coordinated work of a large team," the pilot explained.
