Entire Family Convicted For 'High Treason' In Homel

They were sentenced from 8 to 11 years.

The Homel regional court sentenced a family for "high treason". The trial was held behind closed doors.

According to "Radio Svaboda" one of the defendants, Vasil Prokharau, was sentenced to 11 years in prison. His wife Larysa and son Pavel were sentenced to eight years in prison each.

Another defendant in the case, a teacher of Belarusian language, Ruslan Prakharenka, was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment. Nothing is known about the fate of the fifth defendant in the case, Fiodor Aksionenka.

The journalists know from unofficial sources that the criminal case concerns taking photos of various objects in Belarus, while the defendants were being watched by special services for some time before their arrest.
