Piontkovsky: Putin Admitted His Defeat Actually

The head of the Kremlin put forward a ridiculous ultimatum.

Putin's ultimatum, which he announced on the eve of the peace summit in Switzerland, is in fact an admission of defeat, because his plans for Ukraine have failed.

This opinion was expressed by political scientist Andrei Piontkovsky on the air of Espresso.

"Putin's ultimatum is an unprecedented proposal in the history of world wars and world history — give me also those territories that I could not seize from you, then I am ready for a truce. No one will seriously consider it, no one will accept it. But look at this ultimatum from the other side, through the eyes of Putin's 'patriotic cattle', which supports him, this is a retreat," the political scientist explained.

He recalled that Putin began the war with an ultimatum to 30 NATO member states.

"Threatening with destruction, he told them on the day of the declaration of war that if they only decide to help Ukrainians, to prevent him from destroying Ukraine, they will face such catastrophes that they have not known for your thousand-year history. That is, he threatened with nuclear weapons. Now it is clear that this was a bluster, the West is not afraid of it," Piontkovsky added.

In his opinion, now Putin is more concerned about how to stay in power in Russia. He will make every effort for this.

"Putin is now busy with another issue. Yes, he wanted to become the ruler of the Universe, he was sure that Kyiv would be captured in 7 days and that the West would retreat almost to the English Channel. But now he is busy with something else — he needs to stay in power in the country that has been defeated. Because even his ultimatum, insolent and ridiculous, is a recognition of the defeat of his war plans, which he announced on February 24," the political scientist added.

Piontkovsky is also sure that the Kremlin dictator will try to shift the blame for the defeat in the war to the army command. This is evidenced by the large-scale campaign to combat corruption in the Russian Ministry of Defence.

"And how do they do it? To make some kind of agreement that will leave most of the territory of Ukraine in his hands. So he hopes to sell this decision to his people – his population and his supporters – as an honorable draw," the political scientist said. According to him, Putin will probably explain that he failed to “fulfill our majestic goal” due to the fact that the army consists of thieves and traitors. And the culprit for this has already been found.

“His entire fight against corruption is an attempt to blame the army for the failure of the plan to seize Ukraine. Everyone knows that Timur Ivanov was Shoigu's wallet, and Shoigu himself was Putin's wallet. And all these billions went into the pockets of Putin's group. Therefore, it is ridiculous that he suddenly learned that there is corruption in the army," the political scientist said.

Piontkovsky explained that Putin is preparing two steps. The first is to "tear out" the agreement on an honorable draw and "sell" it to the population. The second is to blame the failure of the seizure of Ukraine and Europe on corrupt generals.

Recall that on June 14, Vladimir Putin put forward cynical conditions for a ceasefire in Ukraine. In particular, the Kremlin dictator demands the "complete withdrawal" of the Ukrainian Defence Forces from the territory of four regions of Ukraine and the refusal to join NATO.
