Media: French Troops Staying In Ukraine Since Start Of War

On Thursday, June 6, during the celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of the Allied landings in Normandy, the dispatch of French military instructors to Ukraine may be officially announced. However, the former commander of the French Marine regiment, Per de Jong, said that the French military had been in Ukraine since the beginning of the war. He said this for the Valeurs Acteurs publication.

According to him, French instructors accompanied Caesar howitzers to Ukraine at every stage of their arrival at the front. De Jong said that after crossing the Ukrainian border, the vehicles stop less before arriving at the front because they become very vulnerable to Russian attacks. French instructors accompanying the weapons train the Ukrainian artillerymen as they move, ‘sometimes on the side of the road.’ Especially since the equipment must be maintained throughout the journey in Ukraine, and therefore regularly requires French know-how.

In addition, French instructors accompany Ukrainian military personnel who have been trained in France. This is done to make sure that the Ukrainians have learnt everything correctly.
