NATO Sends Airborne Early Warning And Control Aircraft Over Poland

Lukashenka and the Russians under close scrutiny.

NATO is once again sending airborne early warning and control aircraft into Polish airspace to monitor the skies over Ukraine, the UK Defence Journal reported on Sunday, June 30.

The intelligence will strengthen NATO’s presence in the region and its monitoring of Russian military activity. Officially, all intelligence information is shared only with NATO members, but some are known to promptly share information with Ukraine. This helps to repel Russian attacks, a former RAF officer told the UK Defence Journal on condition of anonymity.

“Western intelligence gives Ukraine the ability to react a little faster,” he said.

AEW systems can detect aircraft hundreds of kilometres away, making them a key deterrent and defence capability for NATO, the article said.

The alliance has increased its air presence in Eastern Europe and over the Baltic Sea since Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine. NATO systems conduct regular patrols to track Russian military aircraft near the Alliance's borders.
