Sikorski: NATO Is Not Some Neighbor’s Security Company, It’s Us

The allies in the Alliance should spend more on defense.

In 2025, Poland plans to increase defense spending to 5% of GDP against the backdrop of the Russian war against Ukraine. According to the Kommentarii portal, this was stated by the country's Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski.

The head of the Polish Foreign Ministry said that “Donald Trump was right when he insisted that the allies should spend more on defense”.

According to Radosław Sikorski, this year Poland plans to spend about 4% of GDP on defense, and next year to increase spending to 5% of GDP.

At the same time, the Minister stressed that the amount of military spending should not be “the only indicator”.

“Iceland, a NATO member, has a small defense budget, but plays an important role, allowing allies to refuel aircraft. And Poland sent troops to Afghanistan to help the US when it was needed, even when it spent less than 2% on defense. We are no longer in eternal peace after the Cold War. NATO is not some neighbor's security company, it’s us,” the head of the Polish Foreign Ministry emphasized.
