The Lithuanian Defense Ministry Assured That It Had The Means To Respond To Weather Probes From Belarus

Acting Lithuanian Defense Minister Vladislav Kondratovic said after a meeting on Sunday that the police and army will strengthen cooperation to oppose weather probes launched from Belarus.

Kondratovich spoke about an agreement under which certain airspace zones will be immediately closed if meteoprobes appear in Lithuanian airspace.

"As soon as a flying object is noticed in the airspace, it will be possible to close the corresponding zone. The whole of Lithuania is divided into 24 zones, so within 10 minutes it is possible to close a particular zone and take measures," he said.

At the same time, the minister did not specify exactly what measures will be taken, explaining it by the need not to disclose information to intruders.

"I would like not to name specific measures, they are known to the army commander. I said we will plan, it seems little to you, but we are already acting. We will be able to use certain elements of air defense, intelligence, it gives a quick result. If you imagine that today we put a cannon at the border and shoot, it won't happen," said Kondratovich.

We remind you that on the night of October 26, the Lithuanian side decided to close checkpoints on the border with Belarus because of suspicions that the Belarusian side again flew meteoprobes with smuggled cigarettes to Lithuania.

Also in this regard, they decided to suspend the work of Vilnius airport.
