Belarusians reacted to Warsaw's plans to open two border crossings.
The other day Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced the opening of two border crossings with Belarus in Podlaskie Voivodeship. However, after consultations with Lithuania, which closed the border for a month due to a weather probe attack, the opening of the two checkpoints on the Polish-Belarusian border was postponed for several weeks. Preliminarily, the opening is expected in mid-November.
The site Charter97.org got acquainted with how Belarusians in social networks reacted to this news.
The majority of residents, especially from the border regions of Grodno region, took the message with joy:
- This is the best news! No more standing in kilometer-long queues!
- Hurray! Finally! I'm so sick of these queues!
- Good news for the Polish border area.
- Yes, it would be good, especially for Hrodna, which has two checkpoints near Poland.
- At least people won't have to wait in queues for days!
- But many commentators doubt that now is really the time to open these checkpoints. In their opinion, nothing has changed in Belarus:
- You can't do it. Only sanctions.
- It turns out that Lukashenko and Putin have outplayed the Poles. The migration crisis has not gone anywhere, Polish citizens are still sitting in Belarusian prisons. So let them lift sanctions against Belarus - Lukashenko laughs and rubs his hands with joy.
- What has changed? Has Belarus become freer? Have prisons been opened? The Polish borderland is putting pressure on the Polish government - that's why Tusk took such steps. While Lukashenko is in power, you can't do it!
- Have Pochobut and the priests been released yet?
The users also note that Warsaw's main goal is the security of its borders:
- Poland wants only one thing: to keep illegal immigrants away from Belarus through the forest and the fence. It's enough to control the border area from the side of Belarus and keep illegals away from the border.
Many Belarusians doubt that the border will be opened in the end. They directly write that Lukashenko's regime is not interested in it and can provoke a new crisis to disrupt the process:
- Pleshy will again drive herds of migrants to the crossings - and everything will come to a standstill.
- I am afraid that Belarus will definitely make some provocation to prevent the border from being opened.
- The main thing is not to fly balloons towards Poland now.
- Exercises will start near the border again, as in 2022.
- And Luka will not open it..
