But the information about Protasevich's work for the Belarusian intelligence services appeared long before Lukashenko's words. On March 4, 2024, the site Charter97.org published an interview of the coordinator of the civil campaign "European Belarus" Dmitry Bondarenko. The opposition politician said that he considers Protasevich an agent, and possibly even an officer of the Belarusian special services:
