Europe Has Responded To The US "peace Plan"

Without the EU and Ukraine, it is impossible to end the war.

Ukraine and Europe should participate in any efforts within the framework of the plan to stop Russian military aggression, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas has said. Only in this case the success of the peace plan on Ukraine is possible, the head of European diplomacy told reporters in Brussels on Thursday, November 20, commenting on reports of new efforts by the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump to end the war unleashed by Moscow, writes Deutsche Welle.

Ahead of the EU Council meeting at the level of foreign ministers, she emphasized that the EU welcomes "any effort" to achieve "long-term peace" in Ukraine. Kallas also reminded that there is an "aggressor and a victim" in this war.

Polish Foreign Minister Radoslav Sikorski also said that efforts to achieve peace are welcomed in Europe. "But what is at stake, of course, is the security of Europe. That is why we expect to be consulted," he said. Sikorski also called not to limit Ukraine's ability to defend itself, but to impose restrictions against the aggressor.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, for his part, stressed that peace is hindered by Russia and its President Vladimir Putin. He said Ukrainians do not want capitulation, and Europe wants to achieve a just peace in Ukraine, which is already in its fourth year of defense against a full-scale invasion by Russia. Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares also ruled out the possibility of a peace plan for Ukraine without European participation.

In the meantime, the head of German Federal Chancellor Torsten Frei's office was critical of the White House's new proposal for a peace settlement in Ukraine. "It seems that Putin may thereby achieve military goals that he failed to achieve on the battlefield. And that would certainly be an unacceptable outcome," he said.
