Sanctions are the only language Lukashenko understands.
The plane on which Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kiastutis Budrys and European Commissioner Andrius Kubilius were flying from Brussels to Vilnius on November 20 failed to land in the Lithuanian capital due to weather probes. The officials reported this on their social media pages X.
"The plane on which I and the EU commissioner were flying tonight, returning from Brussels, encountered difficulties on approach at Vilnius airport due to smuggled balloons coming from Belarus and posing a threat to civil aviation safety. Belarus continues its hybrid attacks against Lithuania and the EU, further aggravating the situation. The EU's message to Lukashenka's regime should be unambiguous: hybrid attacks against EU member states will not be tolerated and will trigger a direct and painful response - tougher sanctions. The sooner they are imposed, the better," the Lithuanian foreign minister wrote.
EU Defense and Space Commissioner Andrius Kubilius also published a flight map and called for sanctions.
"My trip to Vilnius! Lithuanian airspace was violated again by Lukashenko's balloons. Sanctions are the only language Lukashenko understands," Kubilius wrote.
Reminder, on November 20, over Vilnius airport temporary restrictions of airspace were again imposed for almost an hour "due to a possible balloon overflight."
