U.S. Senators Cautioned Trump

Putin is trying to make a fool of the President of the United States.

US senators have criticized the so-called peace plan of US President Donald Trump. Lawmakers representing both the Democratic and Republican parties said the White House chief of staff should change advisers and that Ukraine's surrender would be a repeat of the US army's flight from Afghanistan.

Senator Mark Kelly believes "this is a bad agreement." "This agreement is a gift to Putin. It clearly meets the aggressor's desires and requires huge concessions from Ukraine. It does not increase security for Ukraine, our allies, or us."

Senator Chris Coons notes that "the United States is safer and stronger when democracies like Ukraine remain free, stable, and strong enough to deter our adversaries. The agreement that President Trump is imposing on Ukraine forces Ukraine and NATO allies to make serious concessions - or risk losing America's support."

Senator Roger Wicker emphasizes that "The so-called peace plan has serious problems, and I am very skeptical that it will achieve peace. Ukraine should not be forced to give up its land to one of the most audacious war criminals in the world, Vladimir Putin. The size and structure of Ukraine's armed forces is the sovereign right of its government and people. And any guarantees given to Putin should not reward his criminal behavior or undermine the security of the United States or allies. In particular, any arms control proposals with a serial liar and murderer like Putin should be viewed with great caution."

Senator Mitch McConnell believes that "Putin has been trying all year to make a fool of President Trump. If officials in the administration are more concerned about satisfying Putin than securing real peace, the president should find new advisers. Rewarding Russian brutality is a disaster for American interests. And a surrender like Biden's abandonment of Afghanistan would be fatal to the legacy of peace through strength."
