One of them is in danger of flooding.
In the Black Sea near the Turkish coast, an oil tanker Kairos bound for Russia exploded on a mine in the Black Sea. The vessel, which is under sanctions by Britain and the European Union for transporting Russian oil, was damaged in the explosion and subsequent fire, Bloomberg writes, citing Turkey's General Directorate of Maritime Affairs.
Turkish authorities also report a similar incident with a second tanker, the Virat. Both vessels were sailing without cargo at the time of the incident. Rescue vessels have been sent to help the injured tankers.
According to the ship tracking service, Kairos was returning to a Russian port to load after a voyage from Novorossiysk to India's Paradip with a shipment of Urals oil. The tanker Virat, which is under US and EU sanctions for transporting Russian oil, has been idle in the western Black Sea for most of the year - after being added to the US sanctions list on January 10, Bloomberg notes.
According to Tribeca Shipping, the Kairos is in danger of sinking after a mine explosion. At the same time, as the agency notes, shipping traffic through the Bosporus Strait has not been interrupted and continues as usual.
Reuters recalls that in recent years in the waters of the Black Sea repeatedly recorded incidents of ships hitting sea mines, as well as cases of detection of drifting mines.
