Viktor Babariko: I Was Imprisoned For Wanting To Make Belarus Better

Ex-presidential candidate's first words on the loose.

Former presidential candidate and former banker Viktor Babariko has been released and exiled by the Lukashenko regime to Ukraine. The Ukrainian project "I Want to Live" published a short interview with him:

- Why was I imprisoned? For the desire to make life better in Belarus. That's what they put me in jail for. As my son, who, unfortunately, is also still in prison, said: "My article is my last name."

The former political prisoner noted that his son Eduard is still behind bars.

Lukashenko released 123 political prisoners. This became known today, December 13. Among those released are Nobel Peace Prize laureate Ales Bialiatski, opposition politician Pavel Seviarynets, human rights activists Valentin Stefanovich, Vladimir Lobkovich and a number of other prisoners of conscience.
