The Norwegian Nobel Committee expressed "deep relief and sincere joy" over the release of Nobel Peace Prize laureate and Belarusian human rights activist Alesa Bialiatski from political imprisonment in Belarus, "Deutsche Welle".

-"Ales Bialiatski's gaining freedom is a moment we heartily welcome and for which we have long waited," the Nobel Committee said in a statement released Saturday, December 13.

The Nobel Committee called on the Belarusian authorities to release all political prisoners in the country.

For his part, Ales Bialiatski, who was taken to Lithuania after his release in Belarus, said that "the struggle continues."

"Our struggle continues. I think that the Nobel Prize is a certain recognition of our work, our hopes, which have not yet borne fruit, so the struggle continues," he said, speaking in Vilnius.
